About The Symposium:

At the School Security and Safety Regional Training Symposium, you will learn about the latest initiatives, programs and best practices for school safety planning, preparation and response. Insights will be given into recent case studies of school shootings and joint law enforcement and school training exercises. Great emphasis will be placed on the need for schools and law enforcement/emergency personnel to develop a proactive working relationship to mitigate threats in schools. This relationship will be presented by speaker and discussed and debated by speakers and attendees alike in a collaborative forum throughout the event. You will leave the symposium with actionable information, models and tools to use at your school, affiliated school district, agency and community. You will take with you administrative tools, educational and training content for staff, parents and students, as well as information to assist your school in complying with federal standards.

The two day symposium will be presented in a different format for each day. The first day will be general sessions for all attendees and will focus on "Changing the Paradigm of School Safety" and will provide you with valuable information on the importance of being proactive in your preparedness for the possibility of emergencies in schools. You will hear about vital exercises that schools and law enforcement officials can conduct in tandem to more adequately prepare schools for the possibility of an active shooter. Presenters and attendees will discuss the lessons learned for all schools after analyzing recent case studies, including Virginia Tech, Northern Illinois University, Columbine High School and Beslan, Russia. Interactive and engaging presentations by trained professionals will share information about important resources available to greater equip our schools including technology, grants and training programs.

Day two will focus on “Training for Tomorrow” and attendees will be able to attend one of three workshops relevant to their role and responsibilities in school security. Each training workshop will be six hours of interactive, instructional sessions with some of the nation’s top school security trainers. A Homeland Defense Journal "Certificate of Completion" will be provided to all attendees upon conclusion of the workshop.

About the Workshops:

“Developing Optimum School Safety & Crisis Management Plans Workshop” will assist participants with their individual school or school district’s crisis management plan. This training workshop will cover the “mission” of a crisis management plan, the role of the central office, and the extensive nuances of these plans. The 80/20 solution provides you with the foundation needed for a thorough, sound crisis management plan that can be tailored to your school’s unique situation and individual needs. Attendees are encouraged to bring their school’s individual crisis management plan to share with the instructor and fellow participants.

“Active Shooting Training for Educators” is designed for administrators, teachers and school staff. The information contained in this block of instruction is the most edifying, and up-to-the-minute training available on this topic. The class provides the most progressive life-saving information currently available for educating school staffs in how to recognize, prevent and react to school shooters, and active shooter situations. This course provides the audience with a tremendous amount of subject-related instruction that will enhance their mindset, preparation and training should a tragedy occur in their school.

“Incident Command and Control Lockdown Procedures for Law Enforcement” *Due to logistical reasons we have to cancel the upcoming Incident Command and Control Lockdown Procedures for Law Enforcement Workshop. All attendees will be either transferred to “Developing Optimum School Safety & Crisis Management Plans Workshop” or “Active Shooting Training for Educators”, we apologize for any inconvenience this might cause.
