Acquisition workforce employees who are beginning a level I certification program are required to take CON 100. Employees pursuing Level II or Level III certifications may consider taking CON 100 as an elective. This DAU-equivalent course fulfills this requirement.

About This Workshop

Upon completion of the course, attendees will be able to recognize the priorities and focus of the Department of Defense senior leadership which includes conducting the business of Government as a member of the acquisition team, in a smart way, on behalf of the taxpayer, consistent with laws and public policy, so that you will be able to make and recommend good business decisions that best support our customers. During this course students will participate in discussions and have learning experiences related to the following major topics:
 

  • Senior leadership‘s vision and focus for the Acquisition mission and workforce.
  • The expected approach to supporting the DoD mission and customers.
  • The expected approach to conducting business in a smart way.
  • The preferences for conducting business and meeting needs through smart business practices.
  • The overarching principles defining and guiding the DoD approach to doing business as Government contracting professionals.

This course is equivalent to DAU CON100 Shaping Smart Business Arrangements

Continuing Education

This course is recommended for 40 CLPs and is designed to fulfill a DAWIA/FAC-C Level I elective. Students will receive a Government*Horizons certificate of completion.

About Your Instructors

Jim Hiles

MorganFranklin's Vice President of Contracts, Jim Hiles is responsible for developing business and proposals, managing subcontracts and suppliers, and administering government and commercial contracts.

From 2004 to 2005, Jim was Chief of Contracts with the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren. While there, he brokered business transactions supporting research and ordnance operation. He also served as lead contracting officer on the Navy-wide rollout of Seaport, an innovative services acquisition vehicle. From 2001 to 2004, Jim worked as a contracting officer and manager for the Naval Air Systems Command, Patuxent River, Md.

Jim completed over 23 years of active Naval service as a Supply Corps Officer. He served in this capacity aboard the USS M.G. VALLEJO, the USS SUNBIRD, and the USS ARCTIC. He earned a B.S. in Business from the New School, and an M.S. in Acquisition and Finance from the Naval Post-Graduate School.

Public parking at the facility is available for $9 a day. The NRECA Building is just one block from the Ballston Metro Station in the orange line. Please note: the parking garage and a side entrance to the building is on Taylor Street.
